The ” Flying Postman ” delivered 535 letters addressed to each and every member of Congress when he landed his gyrocopter on the Capitol lawn. This was an act of protest taken by an everyday American, Mr. Doug Hughes,a mailman from Florida. His stated reason for flying under the no-fly zone and breaking the law was “to wake up America to the fact our Congress no longer represents the people.” This 61 year old man said that he did not want to wake up one day when he was 75 or 80 years old and think he could have maybe done something. Mr. Hughes warning about the need to take Big Business and Foreign Donors out of the campaign finance game is right on the mark. The Supreme Court ruling of recent times declared a corporation now has all the rights of an individual citizen and is seen as a citizen under the constitution, thus paving the way for Congress to take the big bucks from the “Corporation Citizen” and ignore “their constituents” the citizens they are there to represent. Hence we see our Congresspeople always appear to care about you and me at election time, when they push the voters “hot buttons,” be it abortion, gay rights, defense, or just how bad their opponent is on the issues. Then, after they are elected, or re-elected, it is back to paying off their “Corporate Citizens” with legislation that may send jobs South of the Border, provide contracts for projects, or pave the way for the next bullet train to nowhere. Quid Pro Quo full speed ahead. This regular guy, the ” Flying Postman” wanted to remind us time is short.  We are nearing the tipping point of our survival as a nation.

Patrick Buchanan in his book Suicide of a Super Power, states the following:

” There isn’t a single sitting member of Congress -not one- that doesn’t know exactly where we’re headed…And to use the politics of fear and division and hate on each other-we’re at the point right now where it doesn’t make a damn [bit of difference] whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican, if you’ve forgotten you’re an American. “

The ” Flying Postman ” is an American Hero! He should be saluted and his message heeded by all Americans. His next court appearance is May 8, 2015.
