The famous Kenny Rogers song The Gambler says it all about the faux nuclear negotiations between the U.S. and Iran.  President Obama should pay attention to the lyrics …You gotta know when to hold’em, know when to fold’em…know when to walk away and know when to run.  I believe it is well past the time for walking away from the table and in fact we should be following Kenny’s sage advice and start running before we sign a meaningless “deal” that will only lead to further disintegration of respect and trust by the major players in the Middle East and beyond.

The Iranians are good negotiators. President Obama and Secretary Kerry are poor negotiators. Iran offers absolutely nothing in terms of making any kind of deal worthwhile and they have Secretary Kerry almost daily talking about how we are making progress.  The only thing on the table that the President is negotiating for is the deal itself…nothing more. President Obama wants to be able to say he was responsible for the Iranian Nuclear Deal which required Iran to limit and delay it’s nuclear bomb program. That is all there is….he is seeking for them to agree to do this….limit, delay, and rename their nuclear program…but should they not meet all their obligations there will be no consequences.

We should not be naive about the Iranians. They are playing this along to buy more time but they never intend to comply with any requirements of the agreement. They will sign it but they will not comply. We all know this yet the so called negotiations go on. I have to believe that President Obama somehow thinks he is doing what Nixon did with China. Sorry to say but it just is not the same game.

So what should we do? We can keep playing this hand ( hold’em) and only look more stupid, weak, and dumb, or we can do what Kenny Rogers would suggest. Sometimes the greatest strength is to silently, but firmly, walk away. They know what they are doing and we know what they are doing so lets stop pretending they are not cheaters, liars, and killers. We have three choices here. We can “fold’em”, “walk away”, or we can “run”  but we sure better not continue to “hold’em”.
