The Daily Mix………….. by Michael Hawke

Good Morning America:

It is a cloudy morning here in, “America’s Finest City”, San Diego. I need to wear a sweater to walk the dog today and it looks like we might even get a drizzle out of these clouds.  The forecast calls for a 50% chance we might have to use our wipers when driving, but only on intermittent. A drizzle for us is like a full day of rain for you folks living East of the Mississippi. We take what we can get.

Thomas Alva Edison was an optimist. He never focused on his failures, just reaching new discoveries.  We all need to take a lesson from the inventor of the light bulb. Thomas failed every day, yet he kept researching, trying new things, and never even had the concept of ”I give up” in his makeup.  His response to being reminded of his failures; “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work”.

The only way we can make progress is by experimenting. Our daily lives each begin with unknowns, big and small, about to be discovered. We must not let our past failures limit our daily walk today.  Be like Thomas Edison…move forward, knowing your life is not defined by your misses, but rather by your hits.

Keep Swinging!

The Mainstream Democratic Media Machine…..How Dumb Are We? by, Michael Hawke

The “Mainstream Democratic Media Machine” thinks we are pretty darn dumb.  During the days of the Soviet Union their media was an arm of the State, and as such there was no objective journalism.  The stories were only allowed if they supported the State’s Communist propaganda agenda.

Today, in America, we essentially have the same thing going on. The Democrats and the Main Stream Media walk arm in arm. The Mainstream Media is an arm of the Democrats and as such there is no objective journalism. The stories are only allowed if they support the Liberal, Globalist, propaganda agenda.

During the recent town hall Presidential debate, moderated by CNN’s Anderson Cooper and Martha Raddatz, this bias was easily observed.  At one point Raddatz began to partake in the debate, becoming a surrogate for Hillary. She corrected and challenged Trump on one of his comments regarding the Syrian war. This was another “Candy Crowly” moment reminiscent of the Romney debate debacle, and which now seem to be the norm in Presidential debates.

Anderson Cooper’s question “are you a predator” to Trump offered a clear picture of just how arm in arm the Mainstream Media and the Democrats now walk. Cooper started out the debate by going right to the “locker room” comments of Trump, caught on a hot mike a 12 years ago, which had been all over the Media in the previous few days. Cooper gave a very pompous, moralistic, lead up to his initial question, painting Trump as a predator and abuser.

I would argue that when you run for President your sins will find you out…. but they will do so much more widely if you are a Republican.  In this case I do not defend Trump, or his comments of 12 years past. They reflect him to be a very worldly and shallow person at that moment in time. Yet, what should be bothersome to the voters is the “false outrage” the Mainstream Media is displaying. Not only is this outrage false, the apparent cause of it has been manipulated for political gain.

Anderson Cooper ended his opening statements with a very defined question to Donald Trump. He asked him if he had ever groped, or forced himself, on women.  Cooper pressed this question until he got the answer he wanted, which was a strong denial from Trump. By all accounts Donald Trump won this town hall debate handily. He won it talking about things that matter most to American voters; jobs, economic security for their kids and grand kids futures, borders, and rebuilding our military. Good results, good debate, no question he stomped her! But wait…did he?

Monday the Mainstream Media abuser attacks on Donald Trump began in earnest culminating on Thursday night when Anderson Cooper interviewed Jessica Leeds on CNN News. Who is Jessica Leeds you might be asking?  She is a woman who decided, after watching Donald Trump deny he was a predator, that she must come forward, stand up, and tell the whole world her story…..29 days before the election.  Anderson Cooper did his journalistic duty by putting her, with her story of being abused by Donald Trump, on the CNN nightly news. Thank you for protecting American women Anderson.

Jessica Leeds stated she was on an airplane 35 years ago and was seated in first class next to Donald Trump. She said it was a long time ago but thought it was a Brannif flight to New York City. She then gave a very detailed account of how Donald Trump reached over and kissed her, and groped her. She basically said he sexually attacked her on this flight to New York while sitting in first class.

What is obvious to me, and should be to you as well, is that Anderson’s first question to Donald Trump was so specific there can be not doubt this was all a pre-planned action.  Anderson Cooper and the Media Democrat machine had this lady in the wings ahead of time. Hillary Clinton’s comments during the debate emphasized Trump as a sexual predator of the lowest kind attacking and abusing women at will.

So Thursday night Anderson Cooper comes out with this ” breaking story” on the latest of Donald Trump’s many victims, and the American voting public must be shocked?  This whole thing is so transparently a set up I cannot believe any American voter would be dumb enough not to see right through it.

But guess what people….the Mainstream Media Democratic machine has weighed the average American voter’s intelligence….and found it to be wanting.  Their view of us is not merely that we are ” Dumb”, but that we are indeed ” Very Dumb”…the dumbest sort of dumb.

If anyone is interested…. I am selling the Golden Gate Bridge for fifty bucks.

Feigned Outrage…..The Irony of the “Trump Locker Room Hot Mike Tape” by Michael Hawke

Feigned Outrage

I was part of the 100 million plus television debate viewers last night. I found it very good television. It was entertaining, somewhat informative, and even provided me with a few good laughs. I am going to share my thoughts about the very first question and also about a second question that came later in the debate as they relate to the “Feigned Outrage” the media and Hillary Clinton display.

The very first question had to do with the “locker room type comments” by Mr. Trump that were disparaging toward women, and extremely crude.  I must ask why these private comments, which are so damaging to women, and especially young women, are being played on television “over and over” by all the media outlets as well as on hundreds of Hillary Clinton’s televised campaign ads all across America?

Is it because the media and Hillary Clinton are really concerned about keeping young women from hearing such degrading things? Or, is it because they think the comments are so bad, that even though replaying this private conversation over and over in a public way will harm young people, it is warranted as a way to keep this “woman abuser” from being elected?  Sort of a “public duty”, like publishing a pedophile address list?

I think the answer is obvious to any thinking American voter. There is no concern for our children and grand children by the media, or by the Clinton campaign. If they were concerned they would not have released this private tape in such a public way over and over over….”thirty days” before the election. This is dirty politics 101. Did Trump say these things? Yes he did and he has apologized for them. He takes the hit for his past on this, and other things too. However the moralizing by Hillary Clinton when she played some pretty dirty politics here is revealing. Their message is designed to slander and damage Mr. Trump as a flawed person with no character and not worthy of being the next President of the United States.

The second question came later in the debate and had to do with what each candidate thought about having a more well mannered campaign or less attack based.  The answer Hillary gave was revealing of her ability to say whatever she thinks might work. She said she has tried to keep her campaign on issue and not fall into the dirt.  Incredulous….just utterly incredulous in the face of the last three days of media blitzing.  She dug up this 11 year old private conversation of Donald Trump’s, distributed it to all the media networks, and then put it all over the country on her campaign ads, and she tells us what a clean campaign she is running. Hillary you cannot get much dirtier than this.

The suggestion that the disparaging comments that Donald Trump made in private 11 years ago, which were not intended to be public, and which were by all accounts locker room banter, somehow just appeared and got on all the networks and all the television news programs in America is on the face of it full “Irony” at its best.

To the Media and to Hillary Clinton I say you can keep your feigned outrage. It is fake to the very core.  The American people are far smarter than you think, and on election day, Donald Trump will win.  He will win because most Americans know it is about the economy, security, prosperity and the future of our children and grand children.

Bubble Life: Where Most People Live Today….. Michael Hawke

Media Lies

Critical Commentary: The following is a discussion by two retired military senior officers on the “Black Lies Matter Article” by Heather MacDonald.  The ” Bubble ” is the issue!!
Michael Hawke
David, I agree with you. I read Heather Mac Donald regularly and I mostly agree with her. Unfortunately, her very conservative political philosophy tinges her writings and hinders her message from penetrating a broader public.
While some parallels can be drawn between the Black Panthers and the Black Lives Matter movement, something unique is occurring today, and I think it has to do with how social media seduces people, especially the millennials, into comfortable protective bubbles. These bubble people (many journalists also are part of this crowd) live in the present tense, cutoff from any past-tense, from history. That’s why when elders try to explain to Bernie bros and gals about how Nader’s third-party bid threw the 2000 election to George W., they respond with blank looks. They don’t get it. The same phenomenon occurs when chiefs and mayors try to explain police shootings. They are incapable of processing the answers. Millennials have never known high crime and have no sense how far society has progressed. They assume the police are responsible for the violence because police are authority figures, and millennials have grown up thinking all authority figures are bad.
I have been thinking about this a lot. I believe bubble people do not understand human nature. Let me explain, and please bear with me, because I have incorporated this thinking into my lectures.
Like computers, humans have an operating system that runs in the background. Dell computers run Windows 7 or 10, etc. Apple runs macOS whatever number is current. Our operating system is called the autonomic nervous system. We mostly are unconscious that it is working. Our operating system comes in two parts. The para-sympathetic nervous (sub) system calms the body, slows the heart, stimulates digestion & promotes sleep, growth and energy storage. The sympathetic nervous (sub) system kicks into gear during emergencies, when we are threatened. Because bubble people have always lived in protective cocoons, they seldom, if ever, had their sympathetic subsystem activated. They’ve never experience how the sympathetic subsystem changes the body and mental processes. They’ve never known true fear. Two psychologists have written that the average person will experience less than a half-dozen true emergencies during a lifetime. Hell, the average cop experiences six during one shift.
So these bubble people judge police-citizen reactions without understanding human nature, without knowing how the sympathetic nervous system changes us to help us survive. The bubble people magnify their warped judgements through mobile cameras and the Internet.
The bubble people are unset because a black Charlotte police officer shot and killed a black gunman. Audio captures officers screaming about a dozen times to “drop the gun”, the gun was found on the scene and the gunman’s DNA and fingerprints were lifted from the gun. Yet, the bubble people say no “conclusive evidence” exists that the gunman had a gun. WHAT THE?
Alfred Olango in El Cajon goes into a shooting stance, pointing a metallic, cylindrical object at one of the officers. The bubble people said it was a non-shoot situation. Has no one every taught them about the amygdala?
The bubble people criticize the lawyer defending the Tulsa officer because he said she suffered from auditory exclusion when she fired. The bubble people instead want to focus on the officer’s “implicit bias”. What evidence is there that she suffered from implicit bias? If the only evidence needed to prove implicit bias is the fact that she is white and he was black, our trials will become inquisitorial tribunals.
It goes on and on. No wonder college millennials want trigger warnings and safe zones.
In these cases, Col. Jessep (Jack Nicholson) is right, “You can’t handle the truth!…You have the luxury of not knowing what I know…And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don’t want the truth because deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall.”
I fear the bubble people soon will realize that they cannot find anyone who will want to be on that wall.

Don't Quit

A few days each week I take my golden retriever Augustina with me to RB Donuts. I leave her in the car while I go in and get my breakfast. I usually buy a large coffee black, and a glazed twist donut.  I go back to the car and pull around the back of the center and park near the US Post Office where there is a large open grassy area. This is Augustina’s favorite place to do her morning business. There is rich, well watered, green grass, a great tree, and several dense bushes.

Augustina is 12 years old and I drive a Ford Escape. She uses a portable step that we bought at Petco to get up and down from the back seat.  She loves going down but is always analyzing her climb up the two steps on the way into the car.  I think she is worried about missing a step and doing a tumble, which has happened a time or two. If you have an older dog I highly recommend the Petco doggie step.

So anyway about a week ago I was leaning against my car sipping my coffee and watching Augustina do a thorough sniff of the area, seeking the absolute perfect spot to do the drop.  As I glanced down the road which runs behind all the stores I saw this very old looking man coming our way with a walker.  He was taking what I could see were less than full steps, almost baby steps. Half step…lean….roll….half step…lean…roll…you get the idea. He was not getting to us soon and I knew Augustina would be well finished before he got up to the grassy area. Not that I was worried about Augustina, she loves everyone, especially the old, infirmed, deformed, ugly,….she never sees it. She loves people who pass her nose evaluation.  She can sense a good person, a not so good person, and really bad person. I have seen her bark her tail off, most aggressively, at someone who on the surface seems harmless, and conversely  watched her wag and lick people you or I might not want to shake hands with…. but she knows….she knows…. and I trust her too.

So this particular day Augustina is taking her sweet time. It was a beautiful early morning and I forgot about the old guy in the walker. I was looking up at the birds, daydreaming maybe thinking about flying or sailing …just enjoying the morning.  Well, she finally does her business and I do my duty too by picking it up in the doggy bag.  As I turn around to call Augustina to the car I look up and the old guy in the walker is pausing right at our bumper. He was looking at the dog and gave me a warm smile.

I walked over and noticed he was about six feet, maybe six feet one. He stood tall and straight and was taking some slow breaths. Not knowing what to say I gave him my usual comment on what a great invention the walker is. I do think we overlook some of the greatest inventions. I used a walker for a time when my back was completely out. It allowed me to move about the house and the back yard in a way that was almost effortless. It also had a fold down seat, and hand brakes in case you got into an out of control driveway crash situation….sure glad that never happened.

Anyway I finished my walker story and we shook hands and introduced each other.  His handshake was firm and strong. I knew right then he had been an athlete so I said  ” I know you are an athlete but I am wondering what is your sport?” .  He beamed and smiled broadly, and then began to tell me his story.

He had grown up in Queens New York where he met and married his wife. He joined the fire department in New York City.  He said a few years before he retired he and his wife traveled on vacation to San Diego.  After the first day they knew this was the finest place on earth to live and they vowed they would move here when he finally retired. He rose to rank of Battalion Commander in the Fire Department but said as soon as he was eligible to retire he did so.  They kept their vow and moved to Poway, where they lived until his wife passed a few years ago.

Allan told me his sport was cycling. He said he would do sixty plus miles a day about five days a week, as well as longer rides and competitions.  He entered and competed in many long distance races and won awards for his age group many times.  He told me he would still be riding today but when he was 88 years old he had a serious crash and suffered a concussion which left him with permanent vertigo….hence the need for the walker. He went on to explain that when he crashed he had logged 195,000 miles cycling all over the United States and in other countries. He said his goal was to reach 200,000 miles and then retire from cycling. At 88 years old this dedicated and competitive athlete’s career was ended by an awful crash that left him seriously handicapped.

Allan went on to tell me he had been sure he was going to make 200,000 miles prior to the crash. He said it was hard to accept not getting over the concussion but now he does miles with his walker. The retirement home where he lives is at the other end of the shopping center and he walks the back road, behind the stores, every day. He then said he had to get going and told me he logged his miles after every walk….I did not ask how many miles he had in the walker but next time we meet I will do so.

Allen is an example of what it means to be an athlete.  He is the living picture of the saying “once an athlete always an athlete”.  When most people think of an athlete they immediately see…. NFL, MBL, or NBA stars.  These are athletes to be sure but an athlete is also someone who is doing his or her sport and always striving to improve and win.  Athletes compete against others, but most of the time they are competing against themselves. An athlete is driven, competitive, committed, disciplined, and usually in outstanding physical shape.  When I hear the word athlete I think of our military people, our police and fire personnel, and all those gym rats dedicating themselves to their sport and workouts each and every day all across America.

To all you fellow athletes out there I say “keep in the game….it matters”!  And remember Allan if you find yourself unable to do your game….there is always another way…. to get better, to compete, and to win.

RB Donut Shop….. by, Michael Hawke

I get up three days out of seven and head for RB Donuts….OK, four to five days out of seven. The RB in the name stands for Rancho Bernardo, which is the community where I live. RB donuts is run by a Cambodian couple, David and Jennifer. I do not know their last name even though I have frequented their donut shop for several years.  I have a typical relationship with this couple that I think most Americans have with the shop and store keepers they see and do business with several times a week. We get to know these folks superficially, yet there is a familiarity that makes the relationships seem deeper, maybe even a little bit like extended family. Conversations usually never cover serious matters yet there is a recognition and a mutual respect that feels good. There is a special comfort and stability that comes from these kinds of connections and seeing these people in our daily lives. I feel this way about David and Jennifer and always enjoy my trip to their shop for my donut and coffee.

The Cambodian Genocide occurred in Cambodia from 1975-1979. During this time nearly 2 million Cambodians were brutally killed by the Khmer Rouge communist government. When David and Jennifer were young teens they lived in a village in Cambodia.  One day the evil Khmer Rouge entered their village, routed everyone to a steep mountainside bordering Thailand, and ordered them to jump. The shooting began as the villagers scrambled to get away. Many died from being shot, or from their perilous falls, or both. These two kids, from different families, survived. Their parents and the rest of their families died. I do not know the details of their trek but they ended up in America, and eventually in San Diego, after a long journey through the political refugee system of the day.  They fell in love somewhere along their way and eventually married and had children. They have three grown children who have all graduated from University of California schools.

I feel a special connection to David and Jennifer knowing their background and how hard they have worked each and every day of their lives.  David says jokingly his donuts are “fat free”.  To me his donuts symbolize what is great about America. These two young people came here seeking safety, freedom, work, and community. They built a life and raised a family through hard work, discipline, and sacrifice. Their three children have excelled academically in the best, most competitive, schools in America. These three, “first generation”, Americans are hard working, respectful, and smart.

Next time you are eating a donut think about David and Jennifer, two very humble, hard working, Americans. Better yet, if you come to San Diego, you can find RB Donuts in Rancho Bernardo, just up the 15 from downtown. Your journey there will reward you with the best donut you every ate…. yes better than Dunkin, better than Winchells, and even better than Krispy Cream.

But once you get there you will be taken way beyond the delicious donut….you will touch and feel the living presence of the American Dream, and you will know why so many millions of people from all over the world want desperately to come to America. Like David and Jennifer they are seeking safety, freedom, work, and community.

Lest you make a leap from this story and think I support we open our doors to the Middle East refugees, or to all who seek to come, you would be wrong. Refugees today need to go through a thorough vetting process. The refugees from Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Libya, and elsewhere in the region, who have migrated into Europe have a clear track record of not assimilating, but rather isolating with their goal to  bring Sharia to their new homelands.  For Europe this has been devastating. The book, “While Europe Slept” predicted the destruction we see today which resulted from a “wide open door” immigration policy.  We need to follow our immigration laws and we need to embrace immigrants and refugees who will become Americans first, just like David and Jennifer are.
