……..thinks the Russian election investigation is nothing but a ruse that most of the politicians and media understand and are perpetrating in order to handcuff President Trump from getting to his agenda.

……..thinks the reason most of the politicians in Washington (are bought and paid for) are feeding this fake investigation is because they have special interest support, of which much of it comes from overseas companies and countries who stand to lose if the American people win by Trumps trade, jobs, and other policies. In other words they do not represent we the people any longer.

…….thinks all of the praise heaped on Jim Comey from both sides of the aisle was vomitous to hear and only supports my thought above.

…….thinks both many Republicans and most Democrats serving as our Representatives in Washington should get to work and quit the endless, mindless, and phony investigations?

……..thinks about 90 percent of media stories are either totally fake or partly fake?

……..thinks there is an agenda to mug President Trump in order to handcuff him from doing the hard work of making America a better place for us….the American people?

……..thinks Jim Comey should have been fired and was in fact a big part of the leaking of fake news for personal and political reasons?

……..thinks Jim Comey gave Hillary Clinton a get out of jail free pass by determining she had “no intent” to commit a crime….and in fact should be investigated for his possible criminal behavior?

……..thinks that most people no longer trust the media, print, television, internet, or radio, to include their “fake low approval” polls?

……..thinks President Trump is naive about how dirty Washington Politics is but wants to truly fix and improve America and has good ideas for American workers, families, and our children’s futures?

…….thinks our elected Representatives are mostly self serving and have little willingness to work together to help America solve problems and go forward?

……..thinks listening to the media today, in any form, is a total waste of time. Their credibility as the presenters of factual information is completely ruined by their own doing.

……..thinks President Obama’s midnight plane delivery of millions in cash to Iran was kind of worth looking into by the FBI and was a real crime.

……..thinks Hillary Clinton’s giving of 25 percent of the United States  uranium reserves to the Russians, followed a few months later by her husband Bill’s $400,000 paid fee in Moscow for one speech, was kind of also worth looking into by the FBI as to the clearly criminal deal making on a personal level by the Secretary of State.

……..thinks that come the 2018 elections the Republican numbers will increase in both the House and Senate due to the American people not being the dumb nucks the politicians think we are.

San Diego Weather: Cooler and overcast today. We have had a great Spring with so much rainfall that the California Drought was officially ended. Now we will be looking ahead to hot days, and what could be a very dangerous fire season by summer’s end.

I used to call my mother almost everyday in her later years. We had great talks, which I really miss. Mom would almost always start with  “How’s your weather out there?”.  My reply was usually short since our weather was always pretty tame compared to her Midwest weather. She always had the more interesting weather be it freezing rain, snow storms and blizzards, tornados, or unbearably humid days with house shaking thunderstorms.  Mom could discuss the weather for fifteen minutes and by the time she finished you knew what was happening. She missed her calling as she would have been a Phenom as a weather woman……Mom was really tough on those weather reporters!

Baseball: San Diego Padres are playing down to expectations. They play good but still manage to lose two or three out every four games. A repeat of last season awaits. Management has tried hard to assuage fan fears by marketing the fact “they are a young, and exciting team”.  While this is true, I do not buy into their “developing for the future….just be patient a few years” line. In a few years, when these young guys are hitting smoking bats and throwing flaming balls, guess what will happen?  Free agency baby….money talks and players walk…and it will be by by-by San Diego.  This has been our history, it has happened before and it will happen again, and again, and again. San Diego baseball?  Well, it’s a lot like our weather; nice, but pretty darn boring after you have been here awhile.

An Athlete And A Gentleman:  Speaking of baseball….Tim Tebow had a great hitting week. It is only a matter of time before he is moved up to double A ball. Not because he is necessarily going to make the “Biggs” but because he is in the “Biggs” wherever he plays. Fans and kids love Tim Tebow.  So sorry the media and sports gurus need to continually knock him, it just does not matter to the rest of us.  The regular folks see his sincerity, goodness, and athleticism, and they like it. The guy is nothing but an incredible athlete and an awesome human being. We could use a few more role models like Tim Tebow in sports, and the world in general.  Go Tim Tebow, I am rooting for your dream, brother.

The Death of the Factor: Bill O’Reilly had his run, and what a run it was. I am sorry to see him go. I was walking down the dock at Cabrillo Isle Marina where Endeavor is berthed and saw two beautiful women and an one average looking fellow getting ready to shove off in a fishing boat. I made the following comment, which could be labeled a tad sexists by certain people; “Wow, what a lucky guy you are going boating with not one, but two, beautiful women”. I immediately felt like I crossed a new red line for talking to women and so I stupidly said…. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to sound like Bill O’Reilly”.  (Where that came from who knows? Maybe the constant CNN bashing on him being a womanizer, sexist, and an arrogant bully, was starting to register in my own head as factual).  The women both laughed and the red head replied….”No problem, I really like Bill O’Reilly and I am sorry to see him go off the air”.  I was surprised but I guess he did not get to be #1 by only appealing to men. He was right on the mark on so much of what he did on air.  Bill O’Reilley is now certainly in a new ” no spin zone” partly of his own making.  Meanwhile the rest of us males are just get more and more confused about how to talk and act around women. We too are now living and working in the “new no spin zone”. Thanks a lot Bill.

Coyote Spotted: A very large coyote….yes they showed him on TV and he is very large,  was spotted running through a Rancho Bernardo neighborhood today. He was caught on cameral and put on local news running with something in his mouth…probably a cat, rabbit, or small dog. Pets are easy prey for these wild beasts.  Watch out for coyotes. They are incredible hunters and your dog or cat is a delicacy they cannot resist. Coyotes can easily hop an 8′ high fence.

Dan’s “My Dream” Update: Dan crossed the equator moving into the Southern Ocean yesterday.  Now, due the time zones, hemispheres and all the rest, I am temporarily confused on when exactly yesterday was for Dan.  My magnetic compass is now swinging amiss and the variations and deviations are backwards too. Whenever yesterday was “it happened”. Dan wrote he is only about 500 miles from his first landfall, at Hiva Oa.  Sailing at about 100 miles a day he is just five days from returning to civilization. That bacon cheese burger is getting closer and closer Dan. Not too bad for a guy who left San Diego March 28th sailing all alone in his 35′ sailboat named “My Dream”.  He is now a member of a very small club of human beings in the history of the planet to have accomplished this feat sailing solo.  I put his courage, talent, and spirit, right up there with the likes of John Glenn and all the other great explorers. Dan, whenever you get back I am voting for you! We need leaders like you brother.

The Voyage of “My Dream” :  My friend Dan is on a solo sail to the Pacific Islands. He departed San Diego five days ago and is heading on a southwesterly course as we read this copy of his log, dated 4/10/2017.  Dan’s boat is named “My Dream” and sailing to the South Pacific has been his dream for most of his adult life. He is now following “His Dream”.  I will be keeping you up to date on Dan’s progress as his voyage evolves.

Tim Tebow was asked by a famous sports announcer how he could even think about trying to play major league baseball when his “best chance to succeed” was in football?  He replied ;  “Chances?…. it’s not about chances, it’s about following your dreams….”.   Thanks for following your dreams Dan.  You inspire us “big league”, and we are rooting for you brother!

Hi,

Boy did we have a ride last night. Winds blowing 20 kts. I had to put a second reef in the main before dark and was flying only the stay sail. Still we were doing 7-8 kts before I went to bed, and several hours after that.

When I started my day at 06:30 (local time) we were still doing 5-6 kts, so I left the sails as they were. The boat was more upright yet cruising along at a decent clip. I wanted to charge the batteries and make some water. After an hour and a half the AP the AP indicated it had reached it’s “current limit”. What did that mean? I had no idea, so I shut down the generator and water maker, ate a brunch, and took a nap.

After a nap I tore all the stuff out of the lazarette to find the shelf (which happens to be unsupported and was holding a half a bucket of chain) had fallen in the path of the tiller arm, which prevented the AP drive from moving the rudder as it was supposed to do. Moving the chain to supported shelf in the lazarette  should prevent that from happening again, but there is now a new project on my list of things to do when I get to some place where it an be done ( it would be VERY difficult to tab in a support while under way.

I shook out one reef and left the stay sail up at 1700 (local).

Current Location=lat/lon 17* 48.6′ N, 124*38.9′ W

This has been a 142 mile day!….Yippee! Now that’s what I’m talkin about.

H-1B Visa Liars….Companies say “No American Workers” for these jobs…… by, Michael Hawke

The H-1B Visa Spin: The special interests have this thing spinning fast and furious…right out of President Trump’s White House. What, you say?  How can that be?  Donald Trump promised to end the abuses of the H-1B Visa underwriting program for big companies. He said these companies must fill the jobs with American workers first.

Wall Street Journal Fake News: This program has been going on, and growing on, for years now. The Wall Street Journal posted an article on page A6 on Tuesday titled; ” U.S Puts a Curb On Visa Program”. Great propaganda….or as Mr. Trump would say, “Great Fake News Story”.

Read the first paragraph….” The federal government began accepting visa applications for a fresh round of high-skilled foreign workers, without the wholesale changes President Donald Trump promised in his campaign. ” Just how does this opening paragraph line up with the Wall Street Journal headline….”A Curb on Visa Program”? Well, it doesn’t. The headline says one thing and the article another.

Smoke and Mirrors:  (page A6 contd.) ” The companies say they are adhering to the program’s rules and only hire foreigners because they can’t find Americans for the jobs, but they are under substantial political scrutiny.” Last year the government gave out 85,000 visas of which 20,000 were for people with advanced degrees. The implication being these were well scrutinized by the government and found to be valid needs.

Campaign Statement: President Trump said during the campaign these visas are for temporary foreign workers , imported from abroad, for the explicit purpose of substituting for American workers at lower pay. He went on to say he was committed to eliminating rampant wide-spread H-1b abuse.

How It Works: It does not take a rocket scientist to see the H-1B program for what it really is;

1.H-1B is nothing more than a back door entry to America. Jobs for these foreign workers and their families. Yes, they can bring their families, which very often leads to American born babies… which leads to anchor residency. You get the picture.

2. H-1B is a way for companies to cut significant costs from paying highly skilled and educated American workers, of which there is no shortage. We have the greatest Universities on the planet and this is a cow dung claim of  “we just can’t find skilled American workers”. This is a lie folks….a doosey too!

3. H-1B is nothing more than a “Recruiting Shell Game”. How, you ask, can these companies claim they have tried to find American, skilled and highly educated, workers to fill these jobs and just cannot do it?  Here is how they do it. They use a recruiting program that sorts out all applicants by their applications and resumes and educations. They present such tightly wound requirements for the jobs that not many, if not most, applicants simply do not fit and the computer rejects them. Then when the program comes up wanting the companies go to the government and say “see, we tried, visas please”. This Zip Recruiter on steroids is how they do this. The government then meekly agrees…got to give these guys visas washing their hands of it….taking the money.

4. H-1B is big money for the politicians. K Street lobbying is how these companies operate. I guarantee you folks there is no K Street lobby for your son or daughter who is just graduating with that science or computer degree and looking for one of these jobs only to be told he or she does not meet the requirement. No sir, no ma’am,  we just cannot find these “highly skilled workers”.

H-1B Visa Hypocrisy:  President Trump wants to build a wall to keep our borders and our nation safe from people illegally entering the United States. He wants to have legal immigration with proper vetting to insure fairness. He has called for all people to get in line saying, “America wants immigrants, but we want those most deserving and willing to contribute”. Then, it would appear, he winks and nods on this H-1B visa program just like GW and Obama did.  H-1B is simply a way to cut in the line. It is not fair by any stretch of the imagination.  If you believe there are 85,000 jobs that cannot be filled by our very best and. Brightest then you are just plain stupid. The fact is, last year there were 85,000 H-1B visas granted…. while companies applied for a whopping 236,000 visas.

H-1B Visa Transparency Please: Companies should have to not just present the unfilled job needs to the government when seeking these visas, they should have to publish them in newspapers, colleges, and on web sites for 180 days. All Americans, and more importantly all American job seekers, should be able to view these jobs and challenge the claims of these companies.  They should also not be allowed to put the “micro filter” on the recruiting program, which is just a manipulative technique designed to keep our sons and daughters on the outside, and foreign workers on the inside.

H-1B Foreign Companies: Many of the high tech foreign companies do not want American workers. Their goal is to bring workers from their own countries. You can look at communities where these companies are located and you mostly find their workforces being foreign born and H-1B visa legal. We should demand honesty for our workers and students. After all you would never be able to put American companies in China, India, or anywhere else and bring in American workers. So why are we so stupid?

The University Link: I would be remiss if I left out the link of our Universities to the H-1B Visa lie. American schools have been selling seats at the table to foreign students at record rates, and making good profits doing so. In the process your kid and mine has been faced with the “college application nightmare”. Not just Universities but Community Colleges are also taking foreign students. The result is our students have impacted classes, difficulty getting class schedules filled, and longer time finishing a two year program. Think of it this way you pay taxes on the schools for 20 years and then when your kid gets to college the schools are impacted.

Once these foreign students, who are here on student visas, graduate they are supposed to return home to their country of origin. American schools are supposed to feel good about providing highly educated workers for their home countries. A kind of  indirect “Peace Corps” benefit if you will.

The problem is these students do not want to leave. So enter the companies who can tap them for a lower cost to do the high tech job. H-1B to the rescue. Not only do these students get to stay, the can now bring their families. So when you look at the big picture here is what you see. We are bringing in foreign students so colleges can make big bucks, then we are letting them stay so companies can make big bucks, and then our own citizen students can get the H-1B shaft, high student loans, and limited job opportunities.

“Winners and Losers”…..”Liars and Fools” :  The H-1B Visa program is a big lie. The politicians support the lie. There are more than enough American highly educated and skilled workers who can meet the requirements of these companies. Do the companies need to pay more for the American workers?  You bet they do! We have created a system that allows for back door immigration at the expense of our best and brightest. Why you might ask?  Greed…..it is all about the money.

To President Trump a little advice from the Gipper: ….”

“Dance with the one that brung you”.

The Lobby System…… by, Michael Hawke

LOBBY SYSTEM: This report is the first of a series on how the lobby system works, most often to the harm of the American people, and to the benefit of the political leaders in Washington.

Daniel Webster: On Lobbying and Bribery.

Lobbying:  to conduct activities aimed at influencing public officials and especially members of a legislative body on legislation. 1. To promote (as a project) or secure the passage of (as legislation) by influencing public officials. 2. To attempt to influence or sway(as a public official) toward a desired action.

Bribery:  the act or practice of giving or taking a bribe.  Bribe:  1. money or favor given or promised to a person in a position of trust to influence his judgment or conduct. 2. to induce or influence.

Fat Albert Navy Scandal: is at the top of the news. The government has now charged several more people, to include a Rear Admiral, in the ever widening bribery scandal. What makes this such a non story is that this is how the Defense Department and the Government, as a whole, have operated for the last sixty plus years. These Navy guys got greedy and went outside accepted boundaries however I would dare say a re-look at how the Navy operated in the Philippines during the latter half of the 20th century would make this Fat Albert bribery scandal look fairly like business as usual.

The Arab Lobby…by Mitchell Baird: “The Saudi lobbying campaign resulted in one of the most successful manipulations of American business and American foreign policy ever attempted by a foreign power…..The offensive was led by Prince Bandar, who became Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United States in 1983 and served for the next twenty-two years.  He exemplified the personal touch involved in lobbying and the way the Arab lobby, as represented by the Saudis, influenced policy through direct access to the President and his advisors. Bandar was not just a diplomat but chief tennis partner of Secretary of State George Schultz, and racquetball opponent of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General David Jones.

Colin Powell developed such a close relationship with Bandar over more than two decades that he referred to him as a brother. Powell said Bandar was such a frequent visitor to the top officials in the Reagan administration that he acted as if he were a member of the Cabinet. ”

Prince Bandar was often referred to as Bandar Bush so close was he to the President, and the Bush family. Treacherous and briberous was this whole affair. Shame on President Bush, and his oil rich father before him. Do the American people understand the lobby system? No, the average citizen is totally clueless. These crimes are so far above the Watergate matter that brought President Nixon down it is almost funny, but for the sobering impact it has on our security as a country, both now and in the future.

My thesis, in this, and the coming articles, is the American people need to understand the lobby system inside and out and demand transparency in all things related to it.

New laws will need to be passed to end this “legal corruption”. Yes, it is “legal corruption” because the politicians simply have passed laws to make legal what is obviously illegal, self enriching, behavior.

Oh….you might look for information on the Mercedes Benz Colin Powell received from the Saudi’s after he retired. Yes…..after ….. for all his support to the Saudi Government. The tip of the ice berg….just the tip.

Keep looking for more Lobby stories by….. Michael Hawke

“Illusionary News”:  President Trump refers to the news as ” Fake News”. He is right about this, however it begs further defining. Not all news is fake, just a whole lot of it. Therein lies the problem for the rest of us. We may as well be standing in line at the market reading the National Enquirer. There is no way for the average person reading Google, Yahoo, The New York Times, The San Diego Tribune, or any news source, to know what is true or false. I read it all, from the left or the right sources, as part fiction, part propaganda, and a small part truth.

“Counterfeit News Network….CNN”:  You could put MSNBC, and Fox ( to a lesser degree), as well as most television news programs in this category.

“Yahoo and Google Search Engine Pages”: Totally left wing, liberal, manipulation. The headlines as you scroll down are all manipulated stories. Those calling themselves ” journalists” today should be ashamed of themselves. They seek no truth but instead seek to push the liberal agenda. They will destroy our nation unless they turn things around and become “journalists “.

“Opinion not News”: Television talk shows, articles, web news sites, radio talk shows and all editorial information sites should be tightly defined and not presented as “the news”. These are “shows” like listening to any other type of information program.

“Baseball Season”: On a happier note baseball season is about to start. Thank goodness. Real athletes playing America’s Pastime… for our entertainment. These guys are just out there making millions, having fun, and keeping their ignorance on political and social matters to themselves….hopefully.

” I am your constant companion. I am your greatest helper-or your heaviest burden. I will push you onward or drag you down to failure. I am completely at your command. Half the tasks you do you might just as well turn over to me and I will do them quickly and correctly.

I am easily managed. You must merely be firm with me. Show me just exactly how you want something done and after a few lessons I will do it automatically.

I am the servant of great men-and, alas, of all failures as well. Those who are great, I have made great. Those who are failures, I have made failures.

I am not a machine, but I work with all the precision of a machine plus the intelligence of a man. You may run me for profit or run me for ruin. It makes no difference to me.

Take me, train me, be firm with me and I will put the world at your feet. Be easy with me, and I will destroy you. I am habit. ”

HARRISON’S FLYING: Flying an airplane is a great experience but is not for the faint of heart. For those of us who fly we see it as an “acceptable risk”. Do things right, follow the rules, be safety minded….you will likely live a long time and go places few human beings, in all of history, have only dreamed of going.

An old pilot truism states; “there are old pilots and there are bold pilots…but there are no old, bold pilots”.  Harrison Ford is an “old pilot” and he got that way by being safe and professional in his flying. He will no doubt learn what went wrong, make a mental fix, and continue to be a “pro” flying safely for many years to come. I would fly with him any day.

As an afterthought John Wayne International is a busy airport and can be tricky due to the mix of small planes and commercial jets flying in and out of the same airspace and landing on the same runway.

QUINN’S ALE HOUSE-SHERATAON SAN DIEGO: I must put in a plug for one of the best kept secrets in San Diego. Quinn’s very youthful, and friendly staff make this a great place to eat dinner, grab a happy hour, or just end the day with an ice cream and tea. Great prices, quality food and drink. Quinn’s is a fun, sophisticated, pub. Kudos to Julia, Jana, and Justin….great servers!

EXCELLENCE:  “Excellence can be attained if you Care more than others think is wise, Risk more than others think is safe, Dream more than others think is practical, and Expect more than others think is possible”.  Author Claude Bissell

DON’T LEAVE MONEY ON THE TABLE: My father shared this with me when I was a small boy. It has many applications that go well beyond the monetary benefits. I have remembered this and cherish it. I have also proven it true as much by not following the principle as I have by following it.

DUTY FREES US: Nothing is more freeing in life than the “force of duty”- duty to God, to self, to family, to church, to work, to country…duty frees!

STAND STRONG: Permanence, perseverance and persistence in the face of all obstacles, discouragements, and impossibilities; it is these things that in all things distinguishes the strong soul from the weak. You can be strong….!

What Would A Monk Do? ………by Michael Hawke

Monks

I am sitting in the club locker room where I swim laps three to four times a week.  There is trash, mostly paper towels, but also a pair of used underwear, hanging from the trash basket, as well as a used toothpaste tube on the floor next to the half full basket. There are more paper towels all over the floor under the sinks.

My first thought was the following….” they never keep this place cleaned up, the management should be fired, I am tired of not finding this locker room clean. I pay dues for this club, it should not look like a dump”.

My second thought, almost immediate after the first, was the following…. “When I am done with my laps I am going to talk to the half wit manager and also write up a complaint. I was thinking these thoughts, it was about 10AM on a weekday morning. I was ready to do my workout but I was focused on trash and mess and the slobs that use the locker room.

My third thought, almost immediate after the second, was the following…. “What would a monk do” ?  Now I have no idea where that thought came from, my mind was negative, I was not thinking spiritually, and I was also not being analytically balanced, something I occasionally try to do.  “What would a monk do”? It just simply popped right into my head.

My fourth thought, almost immediate after the third, was the following…. “a monk would get up, pick up all the paper towels, the hanging underwear, and the toothpaste tube, and stuff it all into the trash basket, making sure to push it way down so there was room for more paper towels. The monk would then go into the pool, swim his laps, check the basket on the way out, and leave knowing he did a good thing for his fellow club members, slobs that they are.

My fifth thought, which came to me while swimming my laps, was the following….” Why did the thought that popped into my head mention a monk and not Jesus? I am a Christian and most Christians have either heard and or have had the thought…. “What would Jesus do”? Well it occurred to me as I swam my laps….Jesus was perfect and when we ask “What would Jesus do”? we almost always think the following; Jesus was and is God, He is perfect….I am a sinner and a fallen man….I cannot possible live up to His standard. I fail almost every time. Therefore I do not need to pick up the trash.

But a monk?  A monk is a man, just like me with all the foibles, fumbles and selfishness.  A monk is trying to be a servant and to “do good and be good” usually in order to reach a more spiritual place that will allow him to be closer to God.

Well….I went into the locker room after my laps, picked up all the trash, the underwear, the toothpaste, the paper towels, and pushed it all way down so there was room for more trash. I then showered, dressed and left without grumbling, writing a complaint, or talking to the half wit manager.

That is what a monk would do and that is what I did too…. and I really felt just a little bit like a monk….and maybe for that moment in a better place both mentally and spiritually.  So when you start the day….start with a prayer and when you get in that place of frustration or challenge ask yourself the question….”What would a monk do”?

Mk
