San Diego Lilac Fire: This fire started around 11AM and by 11PM it had burned over 4100 acres, destroyed over 100 structures, many of them homes, and is still only 15% contained this morning. More Santa Ana winds hitting today…we are praying it does not explode toward 5000 homes in it’s path.

Mississippi Civil Rights Museum: Congressmen Bernie Thomson and John Lewis, along with NAACP President Derrick Thompson skipped the opening ceremony of this historic museum because they essentially called President Trump a racist. Their race bating at such an important moment was typical of the NAACP as an organization. I might state the NAACP does not represent the majority of Americans of all races and ethnic groups. One question….had President Trump not attended this important ceremony what would they be saying? They would be calling him a racist for ignoring this Museum opening.

The National Parks…the rest of the story: The reduction in size of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national parks has stirred the protests of many environmental supporters, including Patagonia and REI. Interior Secretary Ryan Zink stated that Bears Ears is still larger than Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks combined! Grand Staircase still retains about 1 million acres (about 1500 square miles) which is still very large.

President Obama Created Bears Ears:  The stories on President Trump’s reduction of lands leave out a little information claiming, “this is the largest elimination of protected land in American history”. What they fail to say in their articles is that President Obama just created the National Monument at Bears Ears, and in so doing designated an enormous 1.35 million acres of Southeast Utah to be protected park lands. So what President Trump did was simply reduce, to a reasonable size, the extreme number of acres set aside by President Obama.  President Trump supported the creation of this national monument by President Obama but he listened to the people of Utah in his reducing the size of these two parks.

Two Thirds of Utah Owned By Federal Government: The move was supported by the majority of the people of Utah. Senator Oran Hatch said the areas protected were unnecessarily vast, limiting the potential for economic growth, and increasing the control of state lands by the Federal Government. Two thirds of the land in Utah is already owned by the Federal Government!

The Real 2016 Presidential Election Numbers……..by, Michael Hawke

Election 2016 Real Numbers: Hillary Clinton still thinks she should have won the election even though as a seasoned politician, a lawyer, and former First Lady she clearly knows how the electoral college works. Every single Presidential Campaign since the 1900s has focused on getting the most electoral college votes in order to win. The system was set up by the founding fathers for good reasons. The truth is President Trump won because he had a better, smarter, and more flexible campaign team.

Moot Point: Hillary is still spouting and pouting on the interview shows about getting 2 million more popular votes than Donald Trump got. The President also continues to dispute this number claiming, that due to the illegal voter fraud, he likely beat her in the popular votes as well. Well, as they say in the legal profession Hillary….”it is a moot point”.

The Real Reason Hillary Lost: The real reason Hillary lost is that she was not popular. In fact her likability numbers were in the toilet, especially when you think about her potentially being the first Woman President. She wrongly assumed women would push her over the top just because she was a woman. Turns out women are people and voters first, and they just did not like or trust Hillary Clinton. Additionally, Hillary’s campaign staff were drinking “the Kool-Aid”, believing the liberal press accounts that kept declaring her a winner in a landslide months prior, and right up to, election night. She basically took what should have been an easy win and turned it into a loss.

The Real Numbers That Matter: There were over 231 million eligible voters on election night 2016. The actual number who voted was 138,884,643. That is about 58% of all eligible voters. So for Hillary to claim she was some how snookered is crying over the wrong spilt milk. It is evident that a whole lot of democrats stayed home that night. In fact 40% of all eligible voters bowed out. So to Hillary I simply say get over it. You lost on about four different levels and your measly 2 million popular vote lead, if in fact real, was so pathetically close you should be embarrassed to bring it up.

You had the game won…and you blew it.

Who is Michael Hawke: He has been called ” the most interesting writer in America”….also, ” the most objective writer in America…always seeking truth where mostly confusion and lies grow like weeds in the political soil of America”.

Russian Interventions:  The cry “the Russians are coming, the Russians are coming” is no longer ignored. In fact it is pretty much agreed they came…. and they are here to stay. The Russians did attempt to intervene in the Presidential election between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. The problem is, they had no favorites. The were like and investor playing the wins and the losses….they were going to come out ahead either way.

Their strategy was never to pick the winner, but rather create chaos. Their long term goal is to destroy our open and free political system from within. I do say…. their disinformation campaign was a rolling success as evidenced by our politicians being unable to realize what really happened here. The Democrats and Republicans are unable to agree on any important legislation. They have convinced themselves their main purpose is to find out who tried to cheat whom, and was there a crime involved in the process. They seem most satisfied holding hearing after hearing after hearing….. investigating the Russian connection. Meanwhile, no one is running the country.

Louis L’Amour: “The Education of a Wandering Man”  is part memoir, part reflection, which is his legacy on a life lived to the fullest through his never ending quest for knowledge. When I look at autobiographies too often they are simply written not to tell the whole story of the man or woman, but rather to tell a story that puts them in the best light possible, often at the expense of facts and truth.  I could name some titles you would immediately recognize and say ….oh yeah, so true.  I hold my pen.

This book is way different, it is an adventure of the life of one of the most prolific writers of all time and also one of the world’s all-time best selling authors. There are more than 200 million copies in print of his eighty-six novels, sixteen short story collections, and three works of nonfiction. The book is a must read if you consider yourself to be in the company of the well read man or woman.

Speaking of Books: ….Did you book….your holiday flights yet? The time is now. I, myself, am as negligent as the worst of you. As I finish this “Daily Mix” I will be clicking my mouse right over to the airlines page….hoping for a deal. My favorite airline? The ones with the most leg room in coach. Last time I flew, a few months back, I was in pain the whole flight. They no longer can call what you sit on a seat…it is a bench.

I had far more comfortable flying trips on the C-17s the C-130s and, dare I say it…yes the truth be told…. even the military helicopters, which are horribly uncomfortable, bested the current state of comfort of todays airline flying.

Tom Steyer: Most people have never heard of him….. He is running “Impeach Trump” adds on TV. The adds cost in the 7 figure a minute range. He claims they are not funded by Nextgen, but rather being paid from personal funds. By his own claims he is spending $10million dollars to promote the impeachment of the President. His bio claims he is an environmentalist, progressive activist, hedge fund manager, and fundraiser….oh, also a philanthropist. Seems like that $10,000,000 could have done a lot for the homeless problem here in California…doubt it will do much to impeach President Trump.

Rocky Belier: Most people have never heard of him….. He is an American hero having volunteered for the Vietnam war. He was an high NFL prospect and went to serve, foregoing the NFL. In Vietnam he had his foot nearly blown off and it was doubtful he would ever play football and maybe even walk again. He is a gritty blue collar guy form the Midwest. He went on not to just walk, but to play halfback seven season for the Pittsburg Steelers.

His recent take on the NFL knee takers crisis: He said it should have been nipped in the bud by Roger Goodell. It is not about free speech. Nothing any of us do at work gives us the right to upset the company rules for our own personal issues. If he were NFL Commissioner it would be stopped. These guys are being paid to play football, it is a business, they are employees. If their actions damage our product they do not stay with the company. He also pointed out the obvious, like these guys cannot make their point in a thousand other ways and places and not like none of these NFL knee takers are irreplaceable. I hope he replaces Roger Goodell.

Ken Burns: Many people have heard of him…. He is an American documentary film maker, the creator of the recent Vietnam War history that ran on TV a few weeks back. It was a docu-series about the history, “according to Burns”, of the Vietnam War.

If you are a left leaning person or a college student you ate it up. Many scenes, quotes, and interviews were either incomplete or lacking truth altogether. It made for good TV though, and also good political brain washing. Too bad Rocky Bleier was not interviewed, or many of the thousands who actually fought in the war. I keep waiting for….”The Real Historical Documentary of the Vietnam War”. I know it is coming.

Dominus Vobiscum: Latin invocation to St. Michael the Archangel for protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. We sure do need this prayer in our personal lives as well as for our nation.

Jerry Jones: The Dallas Cowboys owner put some clarity on the NFL players taking a knee. He said the Dallas Cowboy players will stand for the National Anthem or they will sit the bench and not play. This is smart and it should have been done earlier. So many players were torn and pressured. Now an adult has stepped up and made it easy for them. No stand no play. No play no pay…and there you have it. Thank you Mr. Jones for respecting your fans, your country, and our veterans, past and present….even if the pocket book was your motivation.

Senator Bob Corker, R-Tennessee: Senator Corker was re-elected by telling his constituents he would vote to replace Obama Care. Well as we all know he had the chance and he did not come though. This week he has announced he will not run for re-election in 2018 for his Senate seat. He also has gone on the attack against President Trump. It does not take a “high IQ” to understand that  Mr. Corker has begun his Presidential election campaign for 2020. To Bob Corker, and all the other Republican Representatives in Washington, I say do your job…..just do your job. Additionally, to Mr. Corker I suggest you resign and let someone take over who will do the will of the people of Tennessee.

San Diego Homeless Numbers: Official tallies have the homeless numbers in San Diego at 12,000. Unofficial tallies state it is closer to 30,000. With the recent Hepatitis A break out, business and community outrage over the chaos, and the virtual take over of the new downtown library as the homeless community day center…. maybe our Mayor and city leaders are finally waking up? Lets hope and pray they do their jobs…just do their jobs. One more thing on this….if you or I were homeless and had to live on the streets San Diego would be our number one destination. A few years back some cities were caught providing one way tickets to Hawaii for some of their homeless people. I would not doubt they are now bussing their problems our way.

Ensenada Mexico Trip: I spent last weekend in Ensenada, Mexico. Ensenada is about 50 miles South of Tijuana. The toll road is a 10 on a 10 point scale. It is very clean, fast, and safe with views of the Pacific Ocean along the coast that are awe inspiring. I was in Baja doing research for my new book. We stayed at the Coral Hotel and enjoyed a first class experience. Sunday we dined on fresh goat, lamb, and fish at their buffet. A visit to Ensenada is not complete unless you visit Housongs, a famous cantina that offers drinks and a first class mariachi. On the way back we stopped in Puerto Nuevo for lobster dinner, the best on the West coast.

Las Vegas Shooting: Our prayers and thoughts go out to the victims, their families, and loved ones. I know there will be more to this story so I will leave it with the thought that automatic weapons, no matter how they are made to be automatic, should not be legal. The second amendment does not give me the right to buy a shoulder firing heat seeking missile launcher. These auto and semi auto rifles should be classified military weapon types and made illegal. I legally own hand guns, rifles, and shot guns. I use them for sport, recreational hunting, and target shooting. I stay proficient for my personal and family’s security. I do not need to fire a hundred rounds to stay safe and if I do I am certain there will be police and or military help on the way.

Cleveland Indians vs. New York Yankees: Their playoff series is tied 2-2. I am rooting for the Indians. They had an awesome season and deserve to go to the World Series. I sure hope they do not over think it tomorrow. Go Cleveland! Just do your job boys….just do your job!

Phil Michelson’s Putter: Phil finished 3rd this past weekend!  He is an awesome player and can easily win many more tournaments, and I believe a few more Majors. If I could give him some advice I would tell him his biggest problem is his putter, it should be longer. He is tall, has arthritis issues, and should not be bending over so far to putt. He uses a very short putter which I think takes a toll on him after three rounds so by Sunday he is not able to focus on his putting due to the strain. It is all subconscious mind you, but golf is that way. Phil you need a longer shafted putter! You can thank me after you put on the Green Jacket again next year!

President Trump’s NFL Comments; “Right On The Mark” …….by, Michael Hawke

25 Monday Sep 2017

I was beginning to feel happy to be done with the NFL this season having let my thoughts on the issue be defined with my recent article, “I Quit the NFL”. I have quite a few other things I want to write about and was feeling good about putting this NFL “take a knee” chaos off my writing plate. I also am realizing, after three weeks of “not watching NFL Sunday football”, that I do not even miss it!

Then the President’s NFL owner comments came out this past week and I am once again dutifully compelled to respond, in the hope of bringing some logic and clarity to what has evolved into nothing less than a complete mess.

Football and politics can never be good together. The absolute bottom line here is that fans watch football to escape real life stresses and pressures. They do not want to watch player protests during our National Anthem at the beginning of the game. If it’s politics they want they tune into Fox News or CNN. The NFL has chosen not only to allow these protests, but to defend them as somehow the players rights, even suggesting the knee takers are social justice heroes….doing the NFL equivalent of the Rosa Parks bus protest.

As a retired Army veteran of 29 plus years, and the son of a WWII Navy War Veteran who served in the Pacific, I have wondered just how long the NFL player protests could continue before the average citizen fan starts getting as upset with these pseudo social warriors as I have been. Well, the dung hit the fan this week, no doubt about it. As for me, and my family, the National Anthem is not about America being “a perfect nation”, rather it is about it being a place where people can strive to make it “a more perfect union”.  The men and women, of all ethnic groups and races, who have fought and died to keep it free are the heroes who deserve our full respect and honor.

This is Roger Goodell’s response to President Trump’s remarks;

“divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs and players represent in our communities”. USA Today

My response to Roger Goodell’s comment;

” divisive actions like players taking a knee during the National Anthem demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for our Nation, our great diversity, and all of our veterans who have paid the ultimate price for our freedoms, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our military soldiers, sailors, marines, and coast guard represent in our communities”.

Commissioner Goodell’s comments ring self serving. We are somehow to equate the players contributions with those sacrifices of our military men and women who have served defending our freedoms and the American way of life.

The NFL that Roger Goodell states deserves such great respect is a tax free, $10 billion dollar a year entity, that has “non profit” status. It also holds cities and communities hostage to build stadiums and provide venues in order to gain, or maintain an NFL franchise.

NFL owners and players make obscene profits. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s annual salary to mange this so called “non-profit” is reported to be over $35 million dollars a year. I wonder if any of these NFL players understand that most kids today never even get the opportunity to go to an NFL game simply due to the high ticket costs set by the NFL.

There is just so much hypocrisy here it makes you want to scream. Yet, in all of it, we are somehow supposed to be sympathetic to Roger Goodell’s indignity over President Trump’s “right on the mark” comments about the NFL, it’s mega rich players, and gutless owners. The liberal media feeds this farce….mostly driven by Trump hating, and fails to even ask one player the following questions;

  1. Please tell specifically the concerns that are driving you to disrespect our flag, our nation, and the many heroes who have given their all by taking a knee during the National Anthem
  2. Could you still express your protest toward these issues but do so in a different venue or time?

These rich NFL players can exercise their right to protest in so many other ways than during the National Anthem. They choose to ignore how their protest affects others and also refuse to find more appropriate venues for their concerns. These players also fail to think about how their actions affect young people who look to them as role models.

So, as I have previously declared, I Quit the NFL!

See a Problem….Solve a Problem:  J.J. Watt, defensive tight end, Houston Texans, did a fund raiser for Hurricane Harvey relief and raised over $18 million dollars… and counting. I kind of like this type of NFL player who realizes he is a role model.

See a problem….solve a problem. Quite different from taking a knee and disrespecting the flag, anthem, and all who sacrificed for our freedoms in order to draw attention to a problem. The Cleveland players should talk to JJ. He knows the importance of being a positive role model out to fix problems, and not a whiney, sniveling, dolt trying to bring others down.

I still Quit the NFL but I feel better being reminded there are players who care with action and not show.

Home of the Free….Land of the Brave:  Clearly these last two words of the National Anthem were displayed in Houston and all the regions hit hard by Hurricane Harvey. Police, Fire, National Guard, citizen volunteers, medical professionals and many others as well as the victims displayed these two words loudly and proudly. I did not see anyone take a knee…did you?

Storm Stilettos: I have a female friend who asked me what they were. She said she heard the tail end of a news report where they were negatively discussing the First Lady’s shoes calling them “Storm Stilettos”.  My friend, who loves shoes more than food, wanted to know where she could buy them. I suggested she try the Ivanka site but she should hurry as they are selling fast.

Early To Bed: Benjamin Franklin has been credited with the saying, “Early to bed, early to rise, will make a fellow healthy, happy, and wise”. Likely Ben heard it from some other source but kudos to him none the less for helping to establish this sage wisdom.

When asked by Barbara Walters “Ted, what is the secret to your success?” He responded: “The secret to my success Barbara is simple: early to bed, early to rise, work like hell and advertise”. Classic Ted Turner… a modern improvement on Ben’s version. Thanks for saving the Buffalo Ted!

Buffalo vs.Truth: Ted Turner did not invent the internet but he should be credited with the saving of the Buffalo and for being a great environmentalist, in the most positive sense. By the way, just in case you are confused, Al Gore did not invent the internet, but he did write the book “An Inconvenient Truth”, which ended up being more of a convenient lie, than anything else. I give Mr. Gore due credit for being an environmentalist…..in the most negative sense.

The Patriots: I listened to the audible version of Bill O’ Reilly’s book, “The Patriots”. I experienced the most enjoyable drive times this past week learning about our “Founding Fathers” and how this nation was born. Some of the history I knew, some I  remembered vaguely, and much more of it was new. The accounts of sacrifice and heroism of these people are captivating and awe inspiring . The book is read by Holter Graham, who does a wonderful job conveying a feel and the emotion of the times.

You can listen to this book with your high school kids. It is available on Audible, order it from BILLOREILLY.COM, or from the Public Library, as I did. You will be blessed and so will your kids who will, when done listening, be far more educated on our founding history than most of their peers.

South Dakota: I met two people from South Dakota and was reminded there are a lot of smart people who do not live in California. Hey, I knew this of course, but when you talk to someone from the center of the country you feel their sense of roots, and common sense…..traits that have been bred out of most Californian’s by their liberal education system and government.

Donald Jr. and the Russian Mess: I watched him on Hannity last week when asked if there were any more things to come out and he said….”nothing, that is all there is”. So two days later it comes out another Russian guy was at the meeting. Not just Donald Jr., Jared Cushner, Paul Maneforte, plus the Russian’s aide were there but another Russian guy. I ask myself what is wrong with Donald Trump Junior? I know he is not a political person but my oh my what a blunder telling Hannity on National TV ” that’s  everything”.

This happened, like all their other blunders, because the Trump campaign has tried to play major league politics when they barely only have minor league skills. Still, they won the game…but how long will they get battered over these inane Russian collusion non- issues? They still fail to put all of these messes to bed.

Hillary…now she is a real “major league” politician. Had she been healthy she would have won. I believe she had to rely on those around her due to her being seriously ill in the last few weeks of the campaign. The people trying to pull her through started believing their own propaganda which served Trump a big old fat one right across the plate.  Trump hit a walk off homer in the bottom of the 9th on election night to win the game. Thank goodness for that!

Cable TV: This is a waste of hard earned money. If you want to keep paying $150.00 or more a month go ahead….but it is stupid. As for the political channels, sports events, and all the other stuff…well it is not worth the money. Cable TV will go the way of Blockbuster.

Health Care Bill Blues: The Republicans in the Senate are dumb, plain and simple. What they need to do was let Obama Care die and then put together a new Health Care Plan with bi-partisan help. There is no way it should be allowed to be called ” Trump Care”. It should be called “The American Health Care Bill”. If our current Senators, both left and right, are unable to get it done then we are stupid if we re-elect them.

Time for a Constitutional Convention:  Current leaders in Congress should address these matters. I believe it must be done through a Constitutional Convention. Currently our Congressmen get elected for two year terms. Six months into their first year they are running for re-election. Everything they do is designed to build political capitol to be used at the next election, just 18 months away. Today millions and millions of dollars are spent on these campaigns. The lobbyists have a hey day, the corruption is ripe, the people get the shaft. So here is the simple fix;

Congresspersons: They are elected to a four year term and can only serve three terms.

Senators: They are elected to a six year term and also can only serve three terms.

President:  Elected to one six year term with no re-election.

There is no doubt this will get these guys working together, cut election waste, and lessen corruption. Lets change things for the better. Call for a Constitutional Convention.

An Open Letter to Special Counsel Robert Mueller…….by, Michael Hawke

Dear Mr. Mueller,

I am requesting you do your duty with honor and integrity in this investigation. I read your biography and like you I too am a veteran. I retired from active duty after 29 plus years. I am also a disabled veteran. I know you know what it means to follow a code of high moral values. I know you did that in your Vietnam service to our country and I suspect you have tried to live your life that way.

Mr. Mueller I do not suggest I know what the complexities of dealing with the Washington political environment are like today. I received a B.A. in Political Science from U.C. Berkeley but my studies were a long a time ago. What I do understand though is cow dung when I see it, and it is flowing like a river from these politicians and the media.

Mr. Mueller it is not 1980 or 1990, or even 2000. America has suffered under politicians pushing off taking care of the debt, health care, social security, and infrastructure while focusing instead on what they perceived was their main job…getting re-elected. The way they have been operating for over forty years has brought us to this dangerous place where lies and deception are no longer the exception but rather the way of doing  business in Washington.

The generation that opposed the Vietnam War, ran Nixon from the White House, and focused on love, peace, and pot went to Washington and Wall Street. When they got there they became the greediest, most self serving bunch ever to lead our country. The flower children generation fell far short of the ideals of their youth.

Mr. Mueller I know you see, as I and most honest Americans do also, the current environment of calling for more and more Russian investigations by the Congress, the Senate, and the Judicial committees, and every other committee that can call a hearing, are nothing more than politicians from both parties trying to keep Donald Trump from being able to push forth his proposals and bills for rebuilding America.

Mr. Mueller I am not suggesting you not do “your investigation”.  I hope you will do it, and do it quickly. I think once your investigation on the Trump-Russian connection is completed the politicians will have to drop their own wasteful and burdensome investigations. Maybe then they will actually get back to work and do what the American people have been asking them to do.  Make America great, make America better for our children and grandchildren, and make America safe.

When did collusion become a crime?  Influence?  I laugh when I hear these political leaders cry “influence by Russia”, influence?  Lets see, does Turkey influence…does Saudi Arabia influence… does Iran influence?  Oh yeah…what about that midnight flight of cash to Teheran? Or what about Bill Clinton getting a $400K pay day for a one day speech in Moscow shortly after the uranium deal with Russia? Influence they cry? What about the K Street lobbyist, many who represent foreign interest counter to our own? Influence…what a bunch of hypocrites.

Mr. Mueller please be quick and complete with your investigation for the good of the country. Donald Trump is trying to do some good things. He is a flawed President but when I look at history I have trouble finding one who was not.  In President Trump’s case he is about business and getting things done. It is my view we need him and he is the right guy for the right time. He may in fact be our last good hope for a prosperous and secure future for our country.

Sincerely,

Michael Hawke

……..thinks the Russian election investigation is nothing but a ruse that most of the politicians and media understand and are perpetrating in order to handcuff President Trump from getting to his agenda.

……..thinks the reason most of the politicians in Washington (are bought and paid for) are feeding this fake investigation is because they have special interest support, of which much of it comes from overseas companies and countries who stand to lose if the American people win by Trumps trade, jobs, and other policies. In other words they do not represent we the people any longer.

…….thinks all of the praise heaped on Jim Comey from both sides of the aisle was vomitous to hear and only supports my thought above.

…….thinks both many Republicans and most Democrats serving as our Representatives in Washington should get to work and quit the endless, mindless, and phony investigations?

……..thinks about 90 percent of media stories are either totally fake or partly fake?

……..thinks there is an agenda to mug President Trump in order to handcuff him from doing the hard work of making America a better place for us….the American people?

……..thinks Jim Comey should have been fired and was in fact a big part of the leaking of fake news for personal and political reasons?

……..thinks Jim Comey gave Hillary Clinton a get out of jail free pass by determining she had “no intent” to commit a crime….and in fact should be investigated for his possible criminal behavior?

……..thinks that most people no longer trust the media, print, television, internet, or radio, to include their “fake low approval” polls?

……..thinks President Trump is naive about how dirty Washington Politics is but wants to truly fix and improve America and has good ideas for American workers, families, and our children’s futures?

…….thinks our elected Representatives are mostly self serving and have little willingness to work together to help America solve problems and go forward?

……..thinks listening to the media today, in any form, is a total waste of time. Their credibility as the presenters of factual information is completely ruined by their own doing.

……..thinks President Obama’s midnight plane delivery of millions in cash to Iran was kind of worth looking into by the FBI and was a real crime.

……..thinks Hillary Clinton’s giving of 25 percent of the United States  uranium reserves to the Russians, followed a few months later by her husband Bill’s $400,000 paid fee in Moscow for one speech, was kind of also worth looking into by the FBI as to the clearly criminal deal making on a personal level by the Secretary of State.

……..thinks that come the 2018 elections the Republican numbers will increase in both the House and Senate due to the American people not being the dumb nucks the politicians think we are.
