The Government Shut Down Solution…. by, Michael Hawke

Once again I am in my living room late at night watching the reports on the government shut down caused by our Congressional Representatives and Senators. The television shots of Representatives and Senators standing and talking, and acting like they have no care in the world, elicits feelings of both dismay and anger.

As of right now, 11:23 PM West Coast time, the Senate has reached an agreement on a bill to extend the government until March 23rd. They are excited that this will result in keeping the government open and avoid an extended shut down, the second in less than a month. The reporters state the House members have been called in so they can vote on the Senate bill. They report some of the members will not get there until early morning. They are hoping for a vote around 6 AM East Coast time.

It is clear to me that we need to change the expectations we, the people, have for our elected representatives who we send to Washington to run our government.  Here is my list of what should be done in order to have these elected political leaders do their job.

No Annual Budget Approved…No Pay: They lose a month of pay for each month in which there is no passage of an annual budget. If they do a stop gap bill to keep it open for a short time they still lose that months pay. If the government shuts down for one or two days they still lose a whole months pay and benefits.

No Annual Budget Approved…All Benefits Stop: They lose their health, dental, as well as their office travel and expense budgets. They also lose all money to pay their office staffs and all benefits for their staffs also stop.

Termed Out…They Cannot Run For Re-Election: If the government is shut down for more than 14 days in any given fiscal year they are termed out of office. In other words they cannot run for re-election when their term is up. That goes for all of them… no matter who they are or what post they hold.

Lets Look At Rules They Voted On For All Of Us….Social Security Limits:  These guys had no problem setting up limits on our senior and disabled citizens regarding Social Security Benefits. If a person is receiving Social Security Benefits and is able, and or needs, to work they limit how much can be earned in a single month. If you go over that amount then you lose your entire Social Security Check for the month you went over the set limit.

When they say “go over” they mean if you go over it by as little as ten dollars you lose your entire benefit check. Now keep in mind the average Social Security Check is about $850.00 dollars and most seniors and disabled people need every dime of it to make ends meet. A simple error of going over the limit, which is generally between $800.00 to $1,000.00 dollars extra each month, will result in their canceling the Social Security for that month.

What is happening here? These elected Representatives can shut down the entire government over their petty power plays knowing they will still get all their pay and benefits to include their expense accounts. Meanwhile the average senior citizen or disabled person gets slammed for working too hard and making more than a set limit. These politicians have no guilt at all in passing these kinds of rules for the rest of us. They do not lose sleep over a person being limited to how much extra they can earn once drawing their benefits.

Don’t you all think it is about time we stop acting like their servants…. and start acting like their bosses? I for one am tired of the incompetence of the people serving in our Congress and the Senate. The problem is there are too many are career politicians, and far too many lawyers for any kind of practical work to get done.

Lets send some real business minded experts up there, what do you say? I say it is time to vote them all out of office. If they can spend four, six, ten, twenty and more years working in Washington and they still have not figured out how to avoid government shut downs or how to develop a workable budget process why do we re-elect them?

Wake Up I Say….Wake Up!

The Daca / Dreamer Win ….. by, Michael Hawke

DACA/ DREAMERS Background Information: …..Reported numbers of DACA immigrants is somewhere around 500,000. The DREAMER numbers are higher and are said to be around 3.5 million. The DACA issue that we hear being negotiated has to do with a set of immigrants brought here as children and registered as DACA immigrants. They were granted temporary waivers to stay under the Obama administration until the deadline which is this March. The larger group, the DREAMERS, are also undocumented immigrants brought here as children but tend to be older and also are not registered in the DACA program.

The Innocent Immigrants: The issue of passing legislation to legalize the DACA group, and then also the DREAMER  group is going to happen. We will pass a law or laws to take care of these people who were largely brought here as children but who are now almost all adults. Through no fault of their own they were illegally brought here by their parents and or families and grew up knowing only America as their home. No groups of illegal immigrants has a better right to an amnesty then do these two groups.

The Problem: The snag here is that we now have a Republican President, Donald Trump, who ran a campaign that included the promise to make America safer by securing our borders through the building of a wall, increase in border patrol agents, and improved security throughout. He also promised to fix our immigration system by ending chain immigration and the lottery as well as selecting immigrants based on merit….what skills and talents will they bring to America to make our country a better nation. For some reason the Democrats insist on having DACA passed without letting the President include the changes he requires to achieve his security goals. The logic of these two things being linked is undeniable. Failure to fix the system of immigration will only lead to more DACA kids and future amnesties needed as well a continued lack of focus on controlling who is allowed to immigrate into America. The politics of polarization is at work here as the Democrats are eying the coming mid-term elections where they hope tp regain a majority in either the House or the Senate.

The Right Thing To Do: The right thing to do is for the Democrats to give the President what he needs to fix the immigration system as well as the money to build the wall and greater security system. The Democrats must know that failure to do this will lead to another disaster in the mid-term elections. The reality is building a wall, controlling our border, and standardizing our immigration system is good for everyone, both citizens and immigrants.

The Lie: The picture painted by the Democrats opposing the wall and the other issues is that we will close off Mexico. Anyone who lives in a border region knows this is both wrong and ridiculous. San Diego’s, San Ysidro border crossing is the busiest border crossing in the world. Thousands of people commute and travel back and forth every day. Many Mexicans living in Mexico have visas and work permits and come over to work in the U.S., preferring to live in their own country Mexico. We also have many Americans living across the border as well who commute daily to work.

San Diego Has a Fence (a wall really): and it is very effective in helping control the illegal, and criminal, elements from easily crossing into the United Sates. I do not think improving the wall along other parts of the border, where the Cartels clearly cross drugs and people freely, is anything other than a necessary and smart thing to do. I would also be remiss if I did not mention that last year in Tijuana, Mexico, minutes from San Diego, there were over 1700 murders….most of which were Cartel related. Do you think the citizens of San Diego want the current wall removed? Not in their lifetimes!

The Money For The Wall: President Trump promised during the campaign that Mexico will pay for the wall. He refers to the $71 billion dollar trade deficit with Mexico, and NAFTA on the table for renegotiation, as the means to ultimately have Mexico foot the bill, either directly or indirectly.

After watching the economy and stock market reach record highs this past year and companies like Apple bringing back off shore money and opening new plants here in America, as well as the tax cuts for all Americans….why should we doubt the Presidents claim. Regarding the amount of money he is requesting, it is not a lot when you start looking at how many projects spend billions and billions in the government sphere.

10 Billion People: By mid 2030 or so the planet’s population will have grown from the current 7.5 billion people to a profound 10 billion people, all trying to live, work, and prosper. There is no question by that time America better be strong, prosperous, and have solid control of her borders. The suggestion President Trump’s goals are anything but that of a forward thinking, practical, business minded visionary is denying the reality of what he has already accomplished. The problem for the Democrats and the Liberal Media is that the President is not a politician. He is a builder….. and for him the only measure of success will be in his Making America Great and Safe again!

Do The Right Thing: I urge our politicians, on both sides of the aisle, to simply quit the lies, get back to work, and simply “do the right thing”.  This  is a win win for both sides…. and most importantly, for these DACA and DREAMER immigrants.

H-1B Visa Liars….Companies say “No American Workers” for these jobs…… by, Michael Hawke

The H-1B Visa Spin: The special interests have this thing spinning fast and furious…right out of President Trump’s White House. What, you say?  How can that be?  Donald Trump promised to end the abuses of the H-1B Visa underwriting program for big companies. He said these companies must fill the jobs with American workers first.

Wall Street Journal Fake News: This program has been going on, and growing on, for years now. The Wall Street Journal posted an article on page A6 on Tuesday titled; ” U.S Puts a Curb On Visa Program”. Great propaganda….or as Mr. Trump would say, “Great Fake News Story”.

Read the first paragraph….” The federal government began accepting visa applications for a fresh round of high-skilled foreign workers, without the wholesale changes President Donald Trump promised in his campaign. ” Just how does this opening paragraph line up with the Wall Street Journal headline….”A Curb on Visa Program”? Well, it doesn’t. The headline says one thing and the article another.

Smoke and Mirrors:  (page A6 contd.) ” The companies say they are adhering to the program’s rules and only hire foreigners because they can’t find Americans for the jobs, but they are under substantial political scrutiny.” Last year the government gave out 85,000 visas of which 20,000 were for people with advanced degrees. The implication being these were well scrutinized by the government and found to be valid needs.

Campaign Statement: President Trump said during the campaign these visas are for temporary foreign workers , imported from abroad, for the explicit purpose of substituting for American workers at lower pay. He went on to say he was committed to eliminating rampant wide-spread H-1b abuse.

How It Works: It does not take a rocket scientist to see the H-1B program for what it really is;

1.H-1B is nothing more than a back door entry to America. Jobs for these foreign workers and their families. Yes, they can bring their families, which very often leads to American born babies… which leads to anchor residency. You get the picture.

2. H-1B is a way for companies to cut significant costs from paying highly skilled and educated American workers, of which there is no shortage. We have the greatest Universities on the planet and this is a cow dung claim of  “we just can’t find skilled American workers”. This is a lie folks….a doosey too!

3. H-1B is nothing more than a “Recruiting Shell Game”. How, you ask, can these companies claim they have tried to find American, skilled and highly educated, workers to fill these jobs and just cannot do it?  Here is how they do it. They use a recruiting program that sorts out all applicants by their applications and resumes and educations. They present such tightly wound requirements for the jobs that not many, if not most, applicants simply do not fit and the computer rejects them. Then when the program comes up wanting the companies go to the government and say “see, we tried, visas please”. This Zip Recruiter on steroids is how they do this. The government then meekly agrees…got to give these guys visas washing their hands of it….taking the money.

4. H-1B is big money for the politicians. K Street lobbying is how these companies operate. I guarantee you folks there is no K Street lobby for your son or daughter who is just graduating with that science or computer degree and looking for one of these jobs only to be told he or she does not meet the requirement. No sir, no ma’am,  we just cannot find these “highly skilled workers”.

H-1B Visa Hypocrisy:  President Trump wants to build a wall to keep our borders and our nation safe from people illegally entering the United States. He wants to have legal immigration with proper vetting to insure fairness. He has called for all people to get in line saying, “America wants immigrants, but we want those most deserving and willing to contribute”. Then, it would appear, he winks and nods on this H-1B visa program just like GW and Obama did.  H-1B is simply a way to cut in the line. It is not fair by any stretch of the imagination.  If you believe there are 85,000 jobs that cannot be filled by our very best and. Brightest then you are just plain stupid. The fact is, last year there were 85,000 H-1B visas granted…. while companies applied for a whopping 236,000 visas.

H-1B Visa Transparency Please: Companies should have to not just present the unfilled job needs to the government when seeking these visas, they should have to publish them in newspapers, colleges, and on web sites for 180 days. All Americans, and more importantly all American job seekers, should be able to view these jobs and challenge the claims of these companies.  They should also not be allowed to put the “micro filter” on the recruiting program, which is just a manipulative technique designed to keep our sons and daughters on the outside, and foreign workers on the inside.

H-1B Foreign Companies: Many of the high tech foreign companies do not want American workers. Their goal is to bring workers from their own countries. You can look at communities where these companies are located and you mostly find their workforces being foreign born and H-1B visa legal. We should demand honesty for our workers and students. After all you would never be able to put American companies in China, India, or anywhere else and bring in American workers. So why are we so stupid?

The University Link: I would be remiss if I left out the link of our Universities to the H-1B Visa lie. American schools have been selling seats at the table to foreign students at record rates, and making good profits doing so. In the process your kid and mine has been faced with the “college application nightmare”. Not just Universities but Community Colleges are also taking foreign students. The result is our students have impacted classes, difficulty getting class schedules filled, and longer time finishing a two year program. Think of it this way you pay taxes on the schools for 20 years and then when your kid gets to college the schools are impacted.

Once these foreign students, who are here on student visas, graduate they are supposed to return home to their country of origin. American schools are supposed to feel good about providing highly educated workers for their home countries. A kind of  indirect “Peace Corps” benefit if you will.

The problem is these students do not want to leave. So enter the companies who can tap them for a lower cost to do the high tech job. H-1B to the rescue. Not only do these students get to stay, the can now bring their families. So when you look at the big picture here is what you see. We are bringing in foreign students so colleges can make big bucks, then we are letting them stay so companies can make big bucks, and then our own citizen students can get the H-1B shaft, high student loans, and limited job opportunities.

“Winners and Losers”…..”Liars and Fools” :  The H-1B Visa program is a big lie. The politicians support the lie. There are more than enough American highly educated and skilled workers who can meet the requirements of these companies. Do the companies need to pay more for the American workers?  You bet they do! We have created a system that allows for back door immigration at the expense of our best and brightest. Why you might ask?  Greed…..it is all about the money.

To President Trump a little advice from the Gipper: ….”

“Dance with the one that brung you”.

Get To Work Mr. President ! …. by, Michael Hawke

Time To Get To Work:  President Trump has started out his administration strongly. He has been appointing very solid people for his cabinet and other key posts. He also has begun to formulate his plans to keep campaign promises as the focus of his Presidency.

The one thing he is doing wrong, and it will be his undoing if he continues, is the constant back and forth attacks on the media. Whether in his tweets, in Press Conferences, or in his rallies he should understand the American people get it. We know what he thinks about the Press…”Fake News Mostly”…. but it is time to move on. He needs to get to work. I get it and I know most voters get it too.

The media has been disgraced, proven to be liars and manipulators, clearly undressed as biased and fake. Stop the attacks Mr. President, ignore their stories, treat them like you would anyone who is an obvious liar.  We need your head in the game, not in a continued fight with the lying, cheating, media.

Election 2016

Most Americans do not really understand how our economy works or how we keep funding the budget. They just assume it is all OK, it will all work out, it is normal and nothing to worry about. This is the real danger…ignorance, selfishness, and laziness by the citizens. The politicians, and especially the political elite, know exactly where we are…how close we are to a financial collapse. They continue to bet on pushing the debt forward but they have already taken care to protect themselves. How many have off shore accounts and investments? I think it would shock you if you knew. Unfortunately our economic health could be likened to a pregnant woman almost to full term yet she is still trying to pretend she is not pregnant and there is no baby coming. Well fellow citizens it is the 9th month and the baby is coming. Preparations are in order. Mk
