inA Tribute To Kimberley R…. : Kimberley died in a tragic car accident 10 years ago today. Kim was a very young 50 years old. She had a heart of gold and gave so much to help others. Her passion for animals, and especially her pet cats, touched all who knew her. Kim you are sorely missed. We know you are with the Lord and we will see you again. Thank you for your sweetness and easy laugh.
Kim was killed instantly while sitting in her stalled car at a red light. She was on the way to work and was the first car at the light on the road leading into town. Her car suddenly died and she could not re-start it. She made a fatal mistake by not getting out of her car and off to the sidewalk, while calling for a tow truck. She was struck in the rear of her car by a speeding driver going 55 mph who only saw the red light change to green….he failed to see Kim sitting there stalled. The driver of the car that hit her was unhurt.
I know Kim would want to send this lesson to all of us…..if your car stalls and you can get out and safely, off to the sidewalk or shoulder, do so. Sitting in a stalled or disabled car on the road or shoulder is dangerous. Kimberley, we will never forget you…we love you Sis!
The State of the Union Speech: Predident Trump delivered and outstanding speech thorougly covering all of his administration’s major accomplishments as well as the very important ongoing issues like ISIS, Syria, Iran, Russia, China, Trade, the new Mexico-Canada-US Trade deal, and the border wall.
There were so many positives in his message that it is hard for me to see how any American, no matter their political views, could not get behind most of his goals and accomplishments, and especially border security. The President showed his human side too…. He said, for example… “legal immingrants are welcome here in America. We ust want you to come here legally”….”America will never be a socialist country”….”we need to pass a joint Medical Reform bill that will provide health care for all, cover pre-existing conditions, and reducre drug costs”. The WWII and Holocost survivors presence was special.
The President is a hands on leader. Rather than speak with eloquent platitudes, President Trump speaks the laguage of the common man or woman. We understand him and he makes no bones about laying out his goals with specifics. His first two years has shown he is not a calculating politician, reading the polls, like tea leaves before speaking or laying out plans and goals. He will never be called an incrimentalist, a label that fits so many in politics and government.
The Border Mess Numbers Growing: Like everyone in America I am watching the evolving crisis at our Southern border crossing in San Diego. The caravan asylum seekers in Tijuana now number around 6,000. By the end of the month, if the additional caravans continue north, there could be as many as 10,000 Central American asylum seekers in Mexico. The people of Tiuana also are in crisis over this growing number of Central American refugees with daily protests.
Geraldo Rivera’s Border Solution: I am not generally a Geraldo fan however, he recently, on Fox News, offered what I consider a logical, practical, approach to not just the current crisis, but to fixing our inefficient and outdated immigration policies. He suggested a multi-faceted approach with a focus on complete immigration reform to include a viable work visa program. He also called for the DACA fix.

in“This Flag Is Presented On Behalf Of A Grateful Nation In Appreciation For The Honorable Service Rendered By Your Loved One…. (name of fallen hero).
At the end of the Military Funeral Service the American Flag covering the coffin is attended to by a military team whose duty is to remove and fold the Flag into an exact, tight, triangle. Once folded it is formally handed to the attending Senior Officer, or Military Chaplain, for presentation to the family. This most solomn military ceremony has been repeated millions of times, for over for two hundered years, to honor our country’s bravest and best….our fallen military heroes.
When the folded American Flag is presented to the family of a former servicemember who has lived a long life after serving his or her country it is a symbol of hope and pride for the family. They are recalling their loved one with…

inSurgery Update: I have been recovering from double level back fusion surgeries which I had done at UCSD Medical Center under the VA Choice Program. The surgeries were much rougher than I imagined they would be. The recovery, 65 days now, has been difficult. I am told by the doctors it will take four or five months to fully recover. It has been a slow two months where it seems like I have barely improved.
Feeding The Birds….and Mrs. Shonegarger: I feed the birds outside my back deck every morning. They are mostly black crows, but occassionally I get smaller birds like wrens and sparrows. These little birds wait until the crows have taken their fill and flown away, after which they swoop in for the meager scraps that were left behind.
Our two cats, Yogi and Boo Boo, love sitting on the upper back deck watching the large crows feeding on the hillside 20 feet below. The crows caww loudly as they swoop in and take a bread or cracker morsel that I throw to them. I find this time very peaceful as I sit drinking my morning coffee and watching my cats react to these hungry birds.
I grew up on Rollins Road in Toledo, Ohio. Rollins Road was a wonderful place to be a kid. My best friend Larry had four brothers and sisters. His dad was a mailman and his mom, like most moms back then, was a home maker. She also was feeder of birds. I remember seeing her save toast and bread and in the mornings throw it off her back porch to the birds. I never gave it thought back then as a kid but as I daily throw morsels of bread to the birds in my neighborhood I often think of Goldie Shonebarger. I can see her throwing bread and toast, taking the time to take care of God’s birds.
Oxycodone Drugs – Evil Disguised As Good: My back fusion surgery was actually two surgeries five days apart. The first sugery they went in from the front which involved a vascular surgeon as well as the spine surgeon. Then, five days later I was in the operating room again. This time they went in from the back and installed rods and a cage. In the process they nicked my spinal column causing a leak of fluid which led to the doctors needing to repair it before completing the surgery. I was in the operating room for seveal hours.
Since the surgeries I have been taking Oxycodone for pain. I started out with 5mgs every four hours. I took this amount for over a month before realizing I needed to get off it. The longer you use this drug the more you need it. I would get sick with body pain, nausea, and weakness after three hours. As time went on and my body got used to it I would start getting sick after two hours. I was hooked in a week and had I not made up my mind to get off it I would be in a bad place right now.
Thankfully I have weaned myself down to just five 5mg pills every 24 hours. My goal is to be off it completely by the end of November. Even with these low doses and spread out times my body screams for this drug. I am sick as a dog at times as I attempt to hold off from taking the pill sooner than the six hour interval. So on top of trying to deal with the recovery I have had to deal with this drug grabbing me by my soul. I do get almost immediate relief when I take the drug but it is short lived. The sad thing is the doctors give you no insight into how to manage this medicine. Had I not been aware and determined to beat it I would probably be another statistic by now.

inThe Ressurection Account (Mark: 16. 1-19)
And when the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices that they might come and anoint Him. And very early on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the enterance of tomb?”
And looking up they saw that the stone had been rolled awasy, although it was extremely large. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man at the right, wearing a white robe; and they were amazed.
And he said to them, “Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; behold, here is the place where they laid Him.”
“But go tell his disciples and Peter, He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him, just as He said to you.” And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had gripped them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.
Now after He had risen on the first day of the week, He first appeared to Mary Magdalne, from whom He had cast out seven demons. She went and reported to those who had been with Him, while they were mourning and weeping. And when they heard that He was alive, and had been seen by her, they refused to believe it.
And after that He appeared in a different form to two of them, while they were walking on their way to the country. And they went away and reported it to the others and they did not believe them either.
And afterward He appeared to the eleven themselves while they were reclining at table; and He reproached them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who had seen Him after He had risen. And He said to them,
“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; they will pick up serpants, and if they drink and deadly poison, it shall not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick and they will recover.”
And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them, and confirmed the word by the signs that followed.

inThe idea that young people who bring guns to school and do evil deeds is the result of our first amendment rights to own guns is profoundly simplistic and plain wrong. The left, to include the media, school administrations, Hollywood stars, and anti NRA groups immediately jump on the opportunity to push for gun control after one of these terrible shootings. There is little logic in their arguments that banning a particular non semi automatic gun, or eliminating second ammedment rights will prevent future school shootings.
Honesty is needed if we want to stop school shootings. They do not happen in a vacuum. There are almost always tell tale signs and indications if people are paying attention to troubled young students. Hollywood liberals who seize on this issue with the same tenaciousness as a dog grabbing a bone seek to appear both compassionite and our all knowing guides. Their hypocracy…

inAirbnb Rentals Destroying Residential Real Estate: The RB&B problem in San Diego is growing. San Diego city government officials, starting at the top with Mayor Kevin Faulkner have punted. The reality is people are now buying residential houses for the sole purpose of creating vacation rental revenue. The demand for housing is growing and the prices soaring as a result. The answer is a simple one. Rental properties should be permitted but short term vacation rentals turn residential neighborhoods into commercial zones. Last I checked you cannot turn you house into a 7/11 or a hardware store so why is RB&B different?
Oh, I will answer my own question….the real estate lobby. Do your jobs over there at City Hall and take care of the all the people, not simple the wealthy investor class. Shame on you guys.
San Diego Roads: I had friends visit from Georgia and they could not believe the roads around town and especially around the airport. Potholes, steel plates, hidden bumps and dips….if you live here you know the story. On and on they work on the roads….low bidder gets the work. Once they begin they have to figure out how to make a profit given their crazy low bid they gave to get the work. Less tar, stones, glue…who knows. Our roads suck and we have no snow, ice, rain, or freezing which causes most Midwestern and Eastern cities havoc. Whats the deal?
Oh, I will answer my own question….the lack of credible leadership at the Streets Division and at City Hall. The buck stops with the good Mayor Kevin Faulkner. Are you guys blind? Do you drive to the airport and around town? How many times do you have drive these streets before you realize whoever is running the road show is a dummy….or worse.
Georgia Tourists Amazed To Learn We Already Have A Wall: I took my friends from Georgia to the border to look at the existing two fence wall between the US and Mexico. I showed them the amount of travel back and forth and explained this wall has been there for almost twenty years and works quite well for citizens on both sides of the border. Free and easy “legal” travel occurs every day across at the border. Mexicans work here and live there and many Americans live in Mexico. The big lie….we are walling off Mexico was exposed for these naive Georgian visitors. The double fence at the San Diego Mexico border area works well and helps Border Patrol to handle the smugglers and human traffickers in a much safer way. So why were these Americans confused?
Oh, I will answer my own question….the full court press of lies pushed continually on the American people by the liberal media, politicians, and radical groups is taken as truth by many Americans and especially democrats and progressives. The failure to look at the proposed completion of the border security wall in a fair and honest way is simply a reflection of these groups left wing goals. An open, uncontrolled border is not simply naive it is completely nuts.

inSAY IT PLEASE !!!
The next time someone says, “How are you?”, try this answer on for size: I am whole. I am complete. I am perfect. I am happy. I am dynamite. I am lovable, loving, getting lots of good love. I am well off and doing well. I have it all together. I am basking in the riches of life. I am prospering right here and right now. I am being richly rewarded, even in my sleep. I am a miracle worker expecting a miracle right now. I am peacefully peaceful. I am walking the walk. I am talking the talk. I am claiming the victory right now. I am successful. I am wealthy. I am living by pure grace. I am a believer. I am standing on faith. I am on my way to the top. I am what I am because I just can’t help myself. And how are you doing, my dear?

inGeno Smith: I feel your pain……from a fellow member of the “Sucker Punched Club”.
I was in the tenth grade and working in drafting class, my first class after lunch. There were five rows of drafting tables, with four tables in each row. I was in the third row from the front, on the end. Picture a row of four drafting tables separated by an aisle ( two to each side of the aisle )so the instructor could move easily front to back helping the students.
The instructor, Mr. Hickman, would often leave the room after the assignment was given. Where he went we never knew but it left the class pretty loose and casual. We worked on drafting boards which angled upward and usually had to draw foundations or other architectural tasks. On this particular day, after Mr. Hickman stepped out, someone in the back flung an eraser…

inGreatest Generation Stoicism: My Dad would have been 93 years old today. He passed way too early, at age 65, in 1990. Dad was a WWII veteran of the Pacific where he served on a landing craft as a gunners mate. He was an 18 year old kid just out of high school but was somehow, like all those kids in WWII, instantly turned into a man by virtue of the life and death nature of war. After the war these young men returned home and helped turn our country into a land of prosperity, growth, freedom, and opportunity. They were not a griping, complaining, or excuse making lot. Determined, stoic, work ethic drove them forward.
Dad never spoke to me about any of his war time service other than to suggest I not go into the Navy when I told I was going to join the military. I remember him saying ship life was pretty hard. I took his advice and went into the Army, thanks for that one Dad! Mom shared that on one of his missions he was assigned to a landing craft and was shuttling ammunition from a supply ship to the island. He told her that when it was time for lunch if your team was on the ship you ate aboard the ship and if on the island you at on the island. Dad was on the island eating sea rations with his buddies when they watched the ship blow up and sink. He spent the rest of the day, and the next, searching for survivors and recovering the bodies of the dead shipmates. Like so many of these WWII vets Dad must have had PTSD. In that time the VA had no knowledge of what it was or how to help veterans. The vets themselves developed many fraternal organizations where they had support and camaraderie.
Toledo Police Officer: Dad went on to a career in law enforcement serving as a Toledo Police Officer for over 20 years. He loved to garden, build model airplanes, take his dog with him in the car, and of course watch, and in that time, listen on the portable radio to sports. To say he was a Detroit Tiger fan would be a huge understatement. He loved the Tigers, and baseball in general. We all got the bug. To this day I know my brother and sister and I are loyal Tigers fans as was our mom. Dad left us with so much more than love of sports. We all knew he loved us and his model of toughness was a trait of the men of his time….warriors all.
Happy Birthday Dad: The Tigers should win the World Series this year and I know you are rooting from the upper deck, looking down. We love and miss you much. Thanks for being tough and for that “pomorski sense of humor” that we all somehow ended up with, for better or worse.
